Users of the MiCard system for benefit and pension payments are being urged to make new arrangements ahead of its withdrawal on December 31.
The facility, which allows cash collection at Isle of Man Post Office branches, was announced for closure in October 2024.
At that time, almost 3,000 people used the service. Since then, over 2,000 have switched to direct bank or online payments.
Letters were sent last week to all remaining users, following similar communications in June and September, urging them to provide account details or contact Social Security immediately.
Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson MHK said: “We’ve made significant progress in helping people move to more secure and convenient payment methods, but need to discuss with the people still using MiCards this week in order to make new arrangements. I urge anyone who hasn’t yet switched to act now.”
He added: “The team are trying to reach all those still receiving their benefits or pension payments in cash, including working with charities, local authorities and partner agencies.
“If you know someone who has still to change their arrangements, please encourage them to call 685656, email socialsecurity@gov.im or speak to staff at Markwell House at the earliest opportunity.”
The government says a payment exception service will be available for those unable to use a bank account and that anyone requiring this should contact the Social Security team on 685656.
However, the Treasury has not revealed what form that service will take.
