Brace yourselves and a get out the sandbags as a red weather warning has been issued coastal overtopping and severe gales.
The weather warning will coming into place from 1pm tomorrow for three hours until 4pm.
The areas likely to be affected are Castletown promenades, Shore Road (Rushen) and the northern end of Douglas promenade.
Ramsey and Laxey Promenades will also be affected but to a lesser extent (yellow to amber category).
Red Weather Warning
The red weather warning for coastal overtopping is in place to the south to south-southwesterly winds will be gale to severe gale force around the hours of Tuesday afternoon’s high tide (approx: 2:30pm).
This will lead to severe coastal overtopping of major volumes of water and debris onto exposed locations.
The main areas to be affected will be Castletown promenades, Shore Road (Rushen) and the northern end of Douglas promenade.
Ramsey and Laxey Promenades will also be affected but to a lesser extent (yellow to amber category).
Yellow Weather Warning
A yellow warning for severe gale force winds will also be in place.
As mentioned above also in this period will be severe gale force south to south-southwesterly winds for a few hours early afternoon tomorrow, then remain a gale force south-westerly the remainder of the day.
These winds in top of the overnight and early morning rain leading to oversaturated ground and areas of standing water could lead to some trees down in places and some brief disruptions/delays to travel.
Inner harbour flooding (advisory): At present the forecast levels for the inner harbours are just below the threshold for a yellow category warning, but not by much.
With the forecasted winds, high tides and a large surge some minor inner harbour flooding should be looked out for around tomorrow afternoon’s high tide (again appox. 2:30pm).
This will be reviewed again following this afternoon’s high tide.
