Chalets Must Go For Pumping Station

Manx Utilities has applied for registered building consent to demolish three holiday chalets in Laxey.

The proposed demolition is required to facilitate the construction of the Cairn Sewage Pumping Station, a key part of a wider wastewater network development for the Garff area.

The application outlines a controlled demolition process, noting that asbestos-containing roof tiles will be removed by licensed professionals.

It accepts that environmental assessments concluded the demolition would result in “a permanent slight adverse effect” on the conservation area, primarily due to the visual impact of the new SPS, not the chalet removal.

The wider project aims to end the current practice of discharging untreated sewage from the Laxey and Baldrine directly into the Irish Sea.
