Chief Minister Alf Cannan has expressed frustration at continued staff growth within Manx Care, contrasting it with government-wide efficiency efforts.
Speaking at a Public Accounts Committee hearing, Mr Cannan revealed he had recently addressed the issue with the Health Minister.
His concern centred on the composition of the workforce expansion.
He said: “We’ve got recruitment control frameworks in place that’s dampened down recruitment.
“But, presenting staff numbers on a quarterly and annual basis and seeing growth and seeing that growth predominantly at Manx Care, often not all the time, but often, is a source, source of considerable frustration.”
He specifically questioned whether increases in permanent staff were offsetting reductions in more expensive temporary labour.
He said: “I know how she [Minister Claire Christian] was holding Manx Care to account for growth in staffing numbers versus decline in agency spend and all the rest of it.”
