Paul Atherton finished second in the Great Welsh Marathon at Pembrey, clocking a strong 2:38:46 in a field of 742.
The Western AC athlete described it afterwards as a welcome return to form. “It was a flat, fast marathon and very well organised, not the hilly marathon you’d expect in Wales!” he wrote on Facebook.
“Finishing second in a time of 2:38:46 was a very proud achievement. Whilst I was around five minutes off a PB, I was happy to get a good run in after a couple of disappointing marathons last year.”
A two‑time Parish Walk winner, Atherton now switches his focus back to June’s event, aiming to translate his renewed momentum into another strong showing over the island’s iconic 85‑mile route.
