The Chief Minister has warned that fuel prices will increase in the coming days due to global pressures following recent events in the Middle East.
In an urgent statement to the House of Keys, the Chief Minister said the island had been “relatively shielded” until now because of the infrequent nature of fuel deliveries compared to the adjacent isle.
However, he confirmed “the upward pressure affecting international fuel markets is now feeding through into the Island’s fuel supply.”
He moved to reassure the public that there is no shortage, stating:
“There is no fuel supply shortage on the island. There is currently no threat to our supply chain.”
Both major fuel suppliers have confirmed deliveries remain on schedule and refinery loadings are proceeding as planned.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the impact would be felt significantly by those using home heating oil.
He said the Council of Ministers is “continuing to develop a range of options to support the most vulnerable in our community”.
He added: “As this government has proven time and time again, we can respond rapidly when the need arises.”
