Public Health and Manx Care have launched their annual push to raise awareness of bowel cancer.
The bodies are urging islanders to stay alert to symptoms throughout April as part of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.
The campaign highlights key warning signs, including changes in bowel habits, blood in stool, constipation or diarrhoea, and stresses that symptoms should never be ignored, even by those who believe their risk is low.
People aged 60–75 are reminded to take up routine screening when invited.
Symptoms
Bowel cancer remains the island’s second most common invasive cancer, with higher rates in older residents but cases recorded in people as young as 25.
As part of the awareness drive, several landmarks will be illuminated in green, yellow and blue on selected dates, including Douglas City Hall, the Legislative Buildings, the Tower of Refuge and Ramsey Swing Bridge.
Public Health will also distribute information across the Island, with posters in public toilets and staff offering guidance at Lake Road Tesco and the Strand Shopping Centre.
Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford MBE MHK said the month offers an important opportunity to “talk more openly” about bowel cancer and encourage anyone with concerns to seek help early.
He added that support for those affected is growing through Mannin Cancer Help Centre and the Isle of Man Anti Cancer Association.
