McGreal pushes Australia’s Wilson despite 2–0 defeat

Mark McGreal

Commonwealth Games – Glasgow 2026

Mark McGreal delivered a composed and competitive showing against Australia’s Aaron Wilson, pushing the double Commonwealth Games gold medallist hard in the second set despite a 2–0 loss.

He admitted frustration at conceding a four on the opening end, a moment that immediately put him under pressure. But McGreal was encouraged by how he responded. “To come back to 6–4 overall was pretty good… I put him under pressure and certainly showed him what the smaller nations are about.”

He said nerves eased as the match settled, allowing him to find rhythm against one of the world’s best. “Jack length kept changing, so until you find your rhythm and zone out the noise, that’s what really got me into the game.”

McGreal also paid tribute to the support from home. “Absolutely phenomenal support… lots of friends and family tuning in to HBO. Thanks very much for watching and all your good messages.”
