Paul Weatherall has confirmed he will again contest one of the two Ayre & Michael seats in September’s House of Keys election.
In his announcement today (May 18), the Chair of Liberal Vannin and Vice‑Chair of Ballaugh Parish Commissioners, said many of the challenges raised during the last election “are still unresolved”, criticising what he described as “five years of dither and indecision” from the current administration.
He highlighted the shortage of affordable homes as a key priority, backing Liberal Vannin’s call for a £100 million, five‑year investment to expand social housing.
Weatherall also pointed to his experience in local government, arguing that central government has shown “disregard” for local authorities.
He cited delays over the management of the Northern Civic Amenity Site as an example of the need for reform in how local services are delivered and funded.
He pledged to focus on openness and transparency if elected, saying residents deserve clearer explanations of how government decisions are made and how public money is spent.
Weatherall will stand under the Liberal Vannin banner, with the party preparing a joint manifesto centred on the economy, housing, and health and social care.
He said he will outline his positions on local concerns in the run‑up to polling day on September 24.
Sitting Ayre and Michael MHKs Alfred Cannan and Tim Johnston have yet to declare their intentions regarding re-election.
