Energy Options Would be Reviewed if Windfarm Rejected

Manx Utilities says it would reassess all options for meeting statutory targets if the proposed Cair Vie onshore windfarm fails to secure planning approval.

Responding to a written question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse, Chair John Wannenburgh said the project is still at pre‑application stage, with no planning submission yet lodged.

He said the authority must comply with the Climate Change Act, which will significantly limit future reliance on fossil fuels. High‑capacity renewable generation, such as onshore wind, is expected to play a central role in offsetting fuel use.

Wannenburgh stressed that Cair Vie is only one part of a wider energy‑transition programme, with multiple renewable and supporting infrastructure projects progressing at different stages.

If the windfarm were ultimately rejected, Manx Utilities would “review all available options” to ensure statutory climate targets are still met.
