The island’s upland and lowland habitats are now tinder‑dry, prompting a very high wildfire risk, according to a joint warning issued by the DEFA Uplands Team, the Manx Peat Partnership and the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service.
With little rain forecast, authorities say even a single spark could trigger a wildfire, threatening habitats, wildlife, livestock and public safety.
Residents and visitors are being urged to avoid anything that could ignite dry ground:
- No BBQs
- No campfires
- No camping stoves
- No discarded cigarettes
- No glass bottles left behind
BBQs, campfires and camping stoves are not permitted anywhere on the DEFA estate.
Anyone who sees smoke or fire in the countryside should move to safety and call 999 immediately.
