Three Ballakermeen sixth‑formers have arrived in Houston after securing scholarships to the United Space School.

The students will spend two weeks at the Space School planning a crewed mission to Mars alongside students from more than 20 countries.

Year 12 students Isabelle Nazar, Holly McEvoy and Dante Kunstel won their places through River Advisers’ long‑running scholarship programme, which has supported Isle of Man students since 2000.

All three prepared for the trip with research tasks ahead of an intensive schedule supported by NASA astronauts, engineers and scientists. Each hopes the experience will shape future study and career choices, from engineering and energy generation to space law.

River Advisers’ Dr Jennifer Stone, the first Manx scholarship recipient in 2000, said the trio’s essays were “very impressive” and that the programme offers invaluable industry insight and international connections.

Department of Education, Sports and Culture Minister Daphne Caine MHK said she looks forward to hearing about their experiences on return.

Charlie Morrey is a Broadcast & Multi Media Journalist for Manx.News and also is a Presenter on Energy FM. Charlie has previously written for Isle of Man Newspapers, magazines and also started her broadcasting career with Manx Radio.
