18-Year-Old to Stand in Glenfaba & Peel

An 18‑year‑old Peel resident, Daniel Davison, has announced he will stand as a candidate for Glenfaba and Peel in this year’s general election.

He highlights his experience running a business and working with local families as the foundation of his campaign.

Davison, who has just completed his A‑levels, said he wanted to address his age upfront, noting that he built The Garage Barbershop from a derelict building while still studying for his GCSEs.

He has also spent the past year doing marketing work for businesses across the island. “I’m not asking anyone to overlook my age. I’m asking you to look at what I’ve done with it,” he said.

He said three years cutting hair for residents had given him a clear picture of the issues facing local communities, including young families struggling to get near a mortgage, farmers working longer hours for less, and concerns about the pace of change on the island.

Davison criticised the Government’s ambition to grow the population to 100,000 by 2037, saying people had not been told where new residents would live or which schools and doctors they would use.

He said this was “not an argument against people coming here”, but a call for honest planning and a “Manx first” approach to homes and jobs.
