Residents are being urged to be cautious after reports of tradespeople calling at homes across the island offering work without appointments.
Police say some visiting traders from the UK or Ireland may not be authorised to work in the Isle of Man, and others may be attempting to obtain money through unlawful or misleading practices.
Officers are asking people to stay alert, particularly on behalf of neighbours who may be vulnerable to unexpected callers.
Key advice includes asking for identification, refusing entry to anyone who arrives unannounced, avoiding doorstep offers of work, not agreeing to unnecessary jobs under pressure, and never paying large sums of cash up front. Many of those involved are non‑residents who stay only briefly to avoid detection.
Anyone approached in this way, or who believes they may already have engaged with such individuals, is asked to contact the OFT on +44 1624 686500 or email iomfairtrading@gov.im. Concerns can also be reported to Police Headquarters on 631212.
Police are encouraging people to share the warning with friends, relatives and others who may not use social media.
