Island professionals are being invited to a free training day later this month to help more women access specialist support after abusive or violent relationships.
Jess Welch, founder of domestic abuse support social enterprise Space4Action, will host an Own My Life taster day on October 22 at Keyll Daree.
The session is designed to give professionals a clear understanding of the 12‑week recovery programme and how it can support women rebuilding their lives after abuse.
Own My Life uses multimedia content to explore how popular culture can reinforce harmful attitudes including sexism, violence, coercive control and disrespect in relationships.
The course, running in 2027 and 2028, breaks down complex topics into accessible concepts and provides each participant with an Own My Story journal for reflection.
Begin Recovery Journey
Jess said: “It’s great that so many professionals have approached us about referring women to Own My Life. The course is designed to help women make sense of their experiences, rebuild their confidence and recognise that abuse is never their fault.
“The taster day allows professionals to experience elements of the course for themselves, understand the principles behind it and gain the information they need to make informed referrals.
“By increasing awareness of the programme, we hope to ensure that even more women can access support and begin their recovery journey.”
Only professionals who complete the taster day can refer women into the programme.
To book a place email contact@space4action.info by October 1.
