A midwife who is offering free birth preparation classes is reaching out to the public for help in improving support for expectant and new parents.
It was announced last year that Manx Care’s parent craft classes will switch from face to face to online content.
The heath care provider is asking for feedback on the decision which determine the future provision of face to face parentcraft.

Former midwife, Jan Ulyatt says public feedback will enable choice and change to happen.
She said: “Due to the severe absence of choice for women within the current maternity provision, I am lobbying for change and I need your help!
“My reason for this has stemmed from a lack of choice for free parentcraft, and more worryingly an absence of choice to have a home visit by a midwife after birth and no choice as to place of birth, ie hospital or home.

“Change will only occur through lobbying from service users (you), both present and past. Therefore, to bring back choice and autonomy within the current midwifery service on the Isle of Man, we need to lobby.”

Want to help bring back the classes? You can share your experiences in a couple of paragraphs, either of parent craft, birth or experienced the benefit of a home visits from a midwife who visited you following your birth.

She added: “Once a service is lost, it rarely comes back, so now is the time to take action before it is too late and the current system becomes the norm.
“Let’s all work together, so that women can once again have the choice they should be entitled to! Remember, this is your voice, your service and your future.
“This is your chance, you now need to take up the baton and create a better future for families on the island.”
