Planning permission is being sought to change All Saints Church into gym.

The church has been closed for several years and has been designated as an ‘assembly and leisure’ development site.

Gym proposal

Plans for the gym include building a mezzanine floor for cardio equipment and a consultation room, new changing rooms and reusing the font as a water fountain.

It says there are 21 parking spaces available on site with five for bicycles and five for motorbikes but claims there will be less than the 350 people that could be accommodated by the church using the facility at any one time.

There are also designs for a wheelchair accessible changing room and toilet, as well as a staircase on the outside of the building for access to the mezzanine floor.

Church sold

The former church in Douglas was bought for the sum of £200,000 in 2019.

All Saints’ Church on Alexandra Drive, Douglas, ceased to be used as a church in May 2017.

This was after it was discovered major renovations were required, and was sold by the church through local estate agents.

The estate agent’s posting for the building described it as a ’unique opportunity to purchase a former place of worship’, complete with ’stunning vaulted ceilings’, a 108 foot main auditorium, kitchen, vestibule and vestry.
