The Brendan Downey Construction Peel to Douglas Trail Run, organised by Manx Harriers, is just days away, with a star-studded field set to take on the 10.5 mile course.
Set to take place this Sunday (September 20), course record-holder and reigning champion Ollie Lockley will head the field in the men’s event, while returning Commonwealth Games distance runner Christa Caine makes for a worthy favourite among the female athletes.
A record 103 competitors took on the race last year.
The event was first run as a road race in 1909, and was won by Stanley Karran in an impressive time of 1hr 10mins 52secs. Across its illustrious 117-year history, the course record has been re-written with changes to the route, however Ollie Lockley’s 2025 time of 50mins 53secs is the benchmark for the current course. After his death in the 1950s, the family of inaugural winner Karran presented a silver trophy in his memory, which is still awarded to the overall winner today.
Sponsorship has allowed for the introduction of a club team competition in both the men’s and women’s races, with prizes being awarded to the podium in both divisions, as well as for individual results. The first three athletes to cross the line for a club will make up their ‘A’ team, while three further runners if applicable will form a ‘B’ team.
Bib collection takes place between 8am and 8:45am at the Creek Inn, with runners setting off from Peel Fish Yard at 9am.
Entries close for the event at 9pm on Friday (September 18), and can be found here.
