The Met Office has issued an Amber weather warning for this weekend.
The warning will be in force from 6pm tomorrow (October 24) until 3pm on Sunday (October 25).
A deep area of low pressure (Storm Boelo) will track to the north of Scotland during Saturday, bringing gale to severe gale force winds across the island Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday.
The southerly gale force wind will veer to the west or southwest and increase to severe gale force by Saturday evening, giving gusts overnight into Sunday of 60 to 70mph quite widely across the island.
These strength winds bring a risk of damage, especially to trees which currently remain in full leaf, as well as disruption to travel.
The winds remain severe gale force for a prolonged period of time and only slowly start to decrease during Sunday before a more significant decrease occurs overnight into Monday (October 26).
