‘An Expensive Night Out’

A man who was found in a drunk state by police with one gram of ketamine in his pocket has been fined.

Lee Paul Dodd, 29, of Oak Avenue Douglas, appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse on Tuesday morning.

The court heard Dodd was found by police patrolling Douglas on the night of May 12 2024.

After a taxi driver refused to take him home, officers arrested Dodd and while searching him found 1.1g of ketamine in his pocket.

His advocate said Dodd was sorry for what happened and said he had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

Magistrates fined him £900 for possession of the ketamine plus £150 for being found drunk in a public place and ordered to pay £125 in prosecution costs, which he offered to pay at a rate of £50 a week.

Sentencing Dodd, the chairman of the bench remarked the incident had turned into an “expensive night out”.
