The temporary closure of Ramsey Swing Bridge to motor vehicles has been extended, initially by a further two months.
Inspections undertaken by the DoI have revealed other areas of concern within the deck structure which require fixing.
Using information gathered during recent inspections, the DoI’s design engineers are undertaking structural assessments of the timber members and drawing up the necessary plans required to allow the damage to the deck to be repaired.
Plans to repair the bridge, including these additional areas are also being drawn up.
The DoI said: “It is intended to undertake repairs as soon as possible subject to material availability.
“The bridge will continue to be available to pedestrian and cycle traffic, and will continue to operate as normal to facilitate access to vessels using Ramsey’s Inner Harbour.
“The department will issue a further update in due course.”
