Bridge to Close for Works

The DoI has announced that Fenella Footbridge in Peel will close for essential maintenance later this year.

The bridge, which connects East and West Quays at Peel Harbour, is around 20 years old and requires refurbishment to ensure continued operation.

A department post said, “Fenella Bridge’s hydraulic systems will be overhauled, and the bridge repainted. This work will require the bridge’s superstructure to be lifted out of the harbour and placed on the stone pier behind the seafood bar at Weatherglass Corner.”

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday September 8, immediately after the school summer holidays, and is expected to last up to four weeks.

The flap gate beneath the bridge will remain operational, with the DoI confirming, “Access for vessels to and from the inner harbour at Peel will be maintained.”

The Seafood Bar at Weatherglass Corner will stay open as usual, though public parking on the stone pier will be unavailable during the works.
