Manx dog handler Bryony Jackson has returned from Crufts “on top of the world” after securing second place in the Young Kennel Club Special Pre‑Beginner Stakes with her four‑year‑old Doberman, Layla.
The pair qualified for the prestigious competition at Ramsey Dog Training Club’s show last July, earning their place among the top young handlers in the UK.
At this year’s Crufts, held in Birmingham, they placed second in the over‑18s category.

Jackson said the result was the culmination of months of intense preparation. “We train all year round, but we really knuckled down after Christmas,” she said.
“We were attending training sessions five times a week with Ramsey Dog Training Club, Ruff Mutts, and with extra help from Claire McKinlay‑Storie, as well as training at home. Hours and hours go into preparing for Crufts, and even then you never feel truly ready, it’s the biggest dog show in the world.”
Representing the Isle of Man on such a stage, she added, was one of her proudest achievements. “To even qualify is the best feeling, no matter how it goes on the day. To come home with a rosette is incredible. I couldn’t be prouder of Layla.”
Jackson, who runs Doolally Dog Grooming, a business named after Layla, was one of several Manx competitors taking part in displays, agility and inter‑regional obedience at this year’s event.
