The Isle of Man Meat Company has referred itself to health and safety and animal welfare specialists.
This follows the escape of a bull earlier this week that was later shot by police.
The company’s initial investigation found the animal exited a haulier’s vehicle through a side inspection panel.
The main gate was open for operational reasons at the time, allowing the bull to leave the plant yard.
A company spokesperson said: “Given the unforeseen nature of the event and the sequence of contributing factors, IOMMC has taken the proactive step of referring itself for further review by an independent HSE and animal welfare specialist.”
They added: “This referral is part of our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement. We aim to ensure that all applicable regulations and operational practices are reviewed and, where necessary, strengthened to minimise the risk of similar incidents occurring in future.”
