The Roads Policing Unit has handed out 20 fixed penalty notices in one day.
Officers also seized one vehicle as its driver didn’t have a licence.
In total, officers spent Saturday dealing with:
1 x vehicle seized for being driven without a licence.
1 x summons to court for no licence and speeding (well beyond the threshold for an endorsable fixed penalty).
20 x Endorsable fixed penalties (Points and a fine) issued for speeding
1 x Endorsable fixed penalty (Points and a fine) issued for driving without due care and attention.
6 x Vehicle defect rectification notices issued for low level vehicle defects (gives owner time to fix issues without formal disposal).
Mountain Road
The RPU said: “Over the last few days we talked about the consequences of the fatal five offences which include driving / riding in excess of the speed limit.
“The fatal five behavours can change a life / lives in a fraction of a second. Don’t be the cause of that change to a life / lives. The below sign, and the term KSIs means that in the last 5 years, 50 people have been killed or seriously injured on the Mountain Road.
“This does not include racing incidents, and sadly, needs updating in the new year. We’ll say no more.
“We do this activity all year round, however during the TT and MGP our numbers increase due to the increased number of road users on the island’s roads, the increased RTC risk, and to try and keep everyone safe given the increased numbers and risk.
“We don’t always update social media outside of these periods as we do many different roles. Some of these roles are paused during these events, meaning we can focus on our activity, of which social media is an important tool.
“The money from fines does not go to the Police or our Xmas Party. We carry out our enforcement activity for one reason only, to keep everyone safe!”
