Yet more good news for local athletics was the performance of Cai Lewis in the Irish National Under 17 Championships at Tullamore, Co. Offaly at the weekend.
Cai, who has Irish family connections and is a member of Northern AC and a student at Millfield School, finished in second place in an 18-strong field in the U17 3,000 metres race in a brilliant time of 8:55.25.
To put this in perspective, it is not far away from the U17 IOM record of 8:48.04 set by Keith Gerrard in 2002 – a great run by Cai.
