Children aged 4-11 will be firing up their imaginations through the power of reading and creative expression this summer.
It’s after Henry Bloom Noble Library in Douglas launched the ‘Marvellous Makers’ summer reading challenge last Saturday.
In partnership with UK charities, the Reading Agency and Create, the initiative celebrates the creativity and storytelling abilities of young people.
Summer Reading Challenge
During the next six weeks, children will be encouraged to explore new books and stories while taking part in free activities, including arts and crafts.
HBN Library Summer Reading Challenge events include:
- Friday 26th July 2pm – 4pm Anna from ManxBirdlife leading a “Fantastic Feathers” session
- Thursday 1st August 10.30am – 11.30am Mask Making with paper plates
- Thursday 8th August 10.30am – 11.30am Wooden Wonders with different wooden crafts
- Wednesday 14th August 10.30am – 11.30am local artist Kathryn Scarlett will be showing us how to make lollypop stick birdhouses
All tickets are £2 and can be purchased at the library.
The Summer Reading Challenge aims to prevent the “summer dip” learning loss many children experience over the holidays when they aren’t in school. With libraries’ support, it provides a free, fun way to keep young minds active.
