Cause of Victoria Road Fire Yet to Be Established

The cause of a fire that engulfed a disused building on Victoria Road in Douglas last night has not yet been established.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service says it is keeping an open mind as investigations continue, working alongside the Isle of Man Constabulary to determine the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 9.33pm following reports of a building well alight. More than 45 fire service personnel were involved in tackling the incident and maintaining emergency cover across the island.

The fire was largely extinguished by 10.51pm, with crews remaining on site until shortly after 2am carrying out damping-down operations and decontamination procedures.

A cordon remains in place around the affected building, although surrounding roads have since reopened. Authorities have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing.
