Firefighters Praise Public after Douglas Blaze

Firefighters have thanked the public for their co-operation after crews worked through the night to bring a ‘fierce’ blaze under control.

The blaze broke out at the abandoned block of flats Seacourt, in Victoria Road, Douglas, last night (October 11).

A spokesperson said: “Crews worked for several hours through the night to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to surrounding areas.

“We would like to thank our partner agencies for their assistance and support throughout the incident, as well as the public for their patience and cooperation whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.”

Could Hear Flames Crackling

A resident of Glencrutchery Road described the scene last night too Manx.News: “We could hear the flames crackling from quite a distance so it was fierce.

“Ash and embers dropping into our garden and onto our drive was a bit concerning but once the fire service arrived they seemed to get it under control pretty quickly.”

Parts of Glencrutchery Road and Victoria Road were closed while the full emergency response took place last night but have now reopened.
