Chief Questioned on Plans for National Office for AI

The Chief Minister has been asked whether the National Office for Artificial Intelligence will need legislation and what its powers and costs will be.

The written question, tabled by Juan Watterson MHK, follows an earlier query on the establishment of the office and seeks further detail on its intended scope, governance and funding.

Mr Watterson also asked when the Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK plans to consult on the proposals, as interest grows around how artificial intelligence will be regulated and supported on the Isle of Man.

The Chief Minister is expected to respond by January 21.

The National Office for Artificial Intelligence has previously been referenced as part of the government’s approach to emerging technologies, though detailed plans have yet to be published.
