Lezayre Commissioners will not be taking recordings of its meetings despite the recent row at Peel Commissioners.
A dispute has been taking place in the west after a commissioner raised concerns around governance and transparency.
At its public meeting on Thursday (March 2), the northern local authority agreed that minutes taken by the clerk, Lynn Smith, are accurate and have not had any issues to date.
Commissioner Mary Phillips said the authority is run like a ‘tight ship’ and the only way she could see meetings needed to be recorded is if ‘someone external’ had an issue.
Chair Karl Brew said any issues with minutes can be raised at meetings and the board agreed to keep things as they are.
Speeding in St Judes
Also on the agenda was a discussion about a request from residents of St Judes who have concerns about speeding in the area.
The clerk said she received a call explaining that the residents have formed a group to try and combat the issue, which the clerk told the board included them buying their own speed gun.
She added that the residents were told the police and Department of Infrastructure won’t implement speed calming measures due to there being ‘no hard data’.
The group told the clerk they had caught someone going at 93mph past a farm shop.
The board agreed to support the group in asking for road safety measures in the area.
Northern Pool
And the new Health Check Station installed at The Northern Swimming Pool has helped save someone’s life.
Vice-Chair Dean Bexon-Ingham, who is the authority’s representative on the pool board, said a resident had used the device which said they were having a ‘mild heart attack’.
The member of the public went to their GP and was admitted to hospital where they were kept for five days and is recovering.
Lezayre Commissioners will next meet on Thursday, May 7.
