Rushen Silver Band will hold a concert to celebrate the life of the late Joyce Corlett MBE.
Joyce, who passed away earlier this year, was a massive supporter of the arts in general and Rushen Silver Band and the Erin Arts Centre.
The concert takes place on September 28 at 2pm at the Erin Arts Centre in Port Erin.
Celebrate Joyce
Music will be chosen from some of Joyce’s favourite pieces and the concert will welcome special guests, organist Gareth Moore, and soprano Christine Teare.
As a founder member of the Friends of Rushen Silver Band, former President of the band and compere at many concerts over the years, Joyce was at the heart of the band for many years, despite not actually playing a brass instrument.
Joyce was involved in the creation of the Erin Arts Centre and was one of the founding Trustees for the organisation, and has been involved for nearly 50 years.
Outside music, Joyce was also a Commissioner in Port Erin, part of Rushen Heritage, Rushen Emergency Ambulance, a scout leader, a volunteer for the Citizens Advice Bureau, as well as the John Betjeman Society.
Very Proud
Musical Director, John Kinley said: “Joyce played a huge role in the Rushen Silver Band family, and we are very proud to be able to perform this concert of some of her favourite music to remember her by, particularly at a venue she was so closely associated with.”
Band Chairman, Chris Weldon added: “Joyce was involved in all areas of community life in the south of the island, and was always there to provide advice and support.
“While we were devastated at her passing, this concert will give everyone who knew her a chance to celebrate everything she did.”
