DoI Minister Tim Crookall has confirmed that Douglas Council is looking to build up to 180 new homes.
He was asked about the scheme by Claire Christian (Douglas South) in Tynwald this week, but didn’t clarify how many homes will be direct replacements for the current stock and how many would be new.
The minister said the Council has submitted a business case for a two stage development, which will include initially building at least 25 homes on one of two sites it already owns.
He said: “This will be the enabler to start works within the Spring Valley estate.
“The full development of the Spring Valley estate aims to construct approximately 150 to 180 new energy efficient homes in total, with new roadways infrastructure, pedestrian areas and open spaces.
“At present, the initial work in connection with the proposals has not begun and is still a concept proposal and therefore a cost estimate is not available at present, and timing of commencement on this project cannot be ascertained.”
