Deputy Chief Minister Meets UK Deputy Prime Minister

Deputy Chief Minister Jane Poole‑Wilson has represented the island at the Channel Islands Liberation Day reception held at Speaker’s House in the Palace of Westminster.

The event, held on Tuesday (April 28), brought together senior representatives from the Crown Dependencies, the UK Government and the diplomatic community to commemorate the end of the Nazi occupation of the Channel Islands during the Second World War.

During her visit, the Deputy Chief Minister met the UK Deputy Prime Minister and Lord Chancellor, Rt Hon David Lammy MP, to discuss the strong relationship between the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom and ongoing cooperation on shared priorities.

She also held discussions with representatives from Guernsey and Jersey, reinforcing the island’s close working ties with the other Crown Dependencies and marking the occasion alongside them.

The Deputy Chief Minister said: “The Channel Islands Liberation Day reception is an important opportunity to recognise our shared history and to honour the resilience of island communities.

“It was an honour to attend, to show our support for the Channel Islands and to strengthen our relationships with partners across the Crown Dependencies and the UK.”

The visit formed part of a wider programme of engagement with British parliamentarians on matters relating to the island’s interests.
