DfE Ordered to Partially Redo FoI

The Information Commissioner has partially upheld a Freedom of Information complaint against the Department for Enterprise after an applicant queried missing details in a response about Visit Isle of Man’s structure, salaries and board appointments.

The original FOI request sought information on Visit Isle of Man’s organisational setup, board membership, appointment processes and staff pay.

While most of the material was released, the applicant highlighted two issues: broken hyperlinks and the absence of civil service pay scales for each post listed in the organisational chart.

An internal review corrected the links and updated the response, but the applicant remained dissatisfied, arguing that pay‑scale information was still unclear.

After reviewing the case, the Information Commissioner found that the Department had not answered all parts of the request, specifically the section requiring job titles to be matched with their corresponding civil service pay bands.

The Department has now been instructed to reprocess that part of the request, either by providing the missing information or issuing a formal refusal notice in line with the Freedom of Information Act.
