The Enterprise Minister says the team supports island wide digital connectivity policy and programme delivery, including work with Manx Telecom.
He confirms it holds no regulatory or enforcement powers over Manx Telecom or any other operator, with oversight resting solely with CURA.
In a written reply to Glenfaba & Peel MHK Kate Lord‑Brennan, Minister Tim Johnston said the team works across digital connectivity projects, maintains “regular contact” with stakeholders including Manx Telecom, and had direct responsibility for delivering the National Broadband Plan.
He said the team monitored planning applications where they related to fibre rollout in NBP areas, as part of tracking progress on infrastructure delivery.
All decisions on policy, funding and contractual commitments “rest with the Department”, he added, with the team operating within established governance processes.
Funding comes from the Department’s annual revenue budget, alongside capital allocations for the broadband plan.
The Minister also confirmed the team “most recently sat within Digital Isle of Man” and is not part of any regulatory structure.
Oversight of telecoms providers, including compliance with licence conditions and code powers, lies solely with CURA, the independent Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority.
