DfE Overhaul Set For Tynwald Debate

A Tynwald committee report calling for a major rethink of how the Isle of Man promotes itself, supports business and structures its enterprise agencies is set to be debated at next week’s sitting.

The Economic Policy Review Committee’s Second Report for 2025–26 examines the role of the Department for Enterprise (DfE) and its executive agencies, concluding that clearer purpose, stronger oversight and a more unified national marketing approach are needed.

Committee Chair Jason Moorhouse MHK will ask Tynwald to receive the report and approve five recommendations:

  • Independent review of DfE’s scope — calling for an external reassessment of the department’s purpose alongside future updates to the Island’s Economic Strategy.
  • Clearer business‑development approach — urging DfE to define how it supports private‑sector growth and how that support is monitored.
  • Unified national brand — proposing a single Isle of Man place‑marketing strategy used across government and by those promoting the Island.
  • Creation of a statutory Tourism Board — replacing the Visit Agency with a formal board representing hospitality and potentially other sectors.
  • Review of the Business, Finance and Digital Agencies — suggesting consideration of a cohesive international marketing function and whether the current agencies should continue in their present form.

The report argues that a clearer structure and unified messaging would strengthen the island’s competitiveness and better support businesses across all sectors.

The debate will take place at next week’s sitting of Tynwald.
