Over 1,300 Waiting For Cataract Surgery

Manx Care has confirmed that 1,334 patients were waiting for cataract day‑case surgery in mid‑June, according to a newly released Freedom of Information response.

The figures show a total ophthalmology outpatient waiting list of 5,154 patients, though Manx Care says it cannot break this down specifically for cataracts.

The admitted patient list includes 1,334 day‑case patients, all awaiting cataract procedures.

Between January 1 and mid‑June 2026, Manx Care carried out:

  • 212 single‑eye cataract operations on‑island by its own clinicians
  • 11 single‑eye cataract operations through off‑island or external providers

Manx Care notes that single‑eye totals may include patients who required separate left and right eye procedures.
