It’s All Happening Out West

Two major events are set to draw crowds to the west of the island this weekend, with Peel and Patrick preparing for a lively mix of sport and community celebration.

Peel Harbour will host the World Championship Viking Longboat Races tomorrow, with racing expected to begin from 12.30pm.

Ten‑person crews will take on a fast 400‑metre sprint around the harbour, an annual spectacle that has been part of the Manx sporting calendar since 1963 and always delivers a noisy, good‑natured afternoon on the quayside.

Spectators are encouraged to line the harbour walls and cheer the teams through the spray.

World Record Attempt

On Sunday (July 19), Knockaloe becomes the focus for a very different challenge: an attempt to break the world record for the largest Pilates class, supported by a full Wellness Festival and Charity Village running from 10am to 5pm.

The current record stands at 3,486 participants, and organisers say everyone who signs up will help push the total higher.

The location carries special significance, Joseph Pilates developed the foundations of his method while interned at Knockaloe, making the event a symbolic homecoming for the global Pilates community.

The record attempt is being delivered by Ramsey Crookall, 34Moves and Visit Isle of Man, with organisers aiming for an inclusive, family friendly day.
