A local disabled person was left without their independence after their wheelchair was damaged when being loaded onto a flight to the island.
The person was traveling back to the Isle of Man last month from Manchester via Patient Transfer with Loganair.
On arrival to the island, it became clear that the persons wheelchair had been significantly damaged.
Damage
Ground crew told the person that the chair had not been secured in the aircraft hold and confirmed that they would report this themselves.
Following assessment, it was confirmed that the damage was severe, including oil leakage and a twisted frame, rendering the chair unsafe and beyond repair.
After several delays and complaint procedure being followed, the person was offered £1,200 compensation for a chair valued at £2,400.
Replacement
However, Loganair has told Manx.News that it has now issued the person with a chair that is a like-for-like and is currently on route to the affected person.
The person said: “Throughout this 25+ day ordeal, I was left without any mobility aid, causing distress, loss of independence, and serious inconvenience.”
They emailed the Health Minster Claire Christian last week, yet to date the Minister has failed to reply despite the automated reply that she would respond within 48 hours.
They told Manx.News that the Patient Transfer team had been brilliant throughout the ordeal and had tried themselves to go through their own avenues to assist.
