Culture Vannin has secured support from Business Isle of Man’s Domestic Event Fund to deliver a series of events celebrating The Year of the Manx Language.
The programme aims to boost awareness, participation and everyday use of Manx Gaelic while also driving footfall and economic activity across the island.
Culture Vannin Director Breesha Maddrell said the funding enables the charity to play a major role in this landmark year.
Encouraging Economic Engagement
Maddrell noted that each activity is planned to bring people into towns, villages and the island’s city, encouraging engagement with hospitality and retail.
She hopes the initiative will inspire long‑term interest in seeing, hearing and speaking Manx well beyond 2026.
The Domestic Event Fund, operated by Business Isle of Man within the Department for Enterprise, offers up to 80% support for new events that increase visitor spend and strengthen local economies.
The scheme aligns with the island’s Local Economy Strategy by helping develop vibrant communities and bolstering retail, leisure and hospitality sectors.
Business Isle of Man CEO Kirree Gooberman welcomed the partnership, describing the planned events as a valuable opportunity for businesses.
She said that bringing cultural activity into town centres will boost participation and footfall, and that customers increasingly value businesses that show pride in Manx culture.
Gooberman added that the Year of the Manx Language could inspire organisations across the island to create their own events throughout 2026.
