An 18-year-old has been fined £650 after admitting driving a car that was in an unroadworthy condition.
Charlie Convery, of Douglas, appeared before magistrates on Thursday.
On May 27, officers stopped a car on Royal Avenue in Onchan and observed several defects which led to them seizing the vehicle.
An inspection by an assessor later recorded 17 defects including an air bag being removed, faulty lights, an oil leak, defects to the steering and several other issues.
Convery’s advocate Kaitlyn Shimmin said he “took the car on trust” after buying it from a mechanic and offered his apologies to the court.
Magistrates said the car “clearly wasn’t fit to be on the road” and said it was up to him to ensure it was.
They fined him £650 and ordered him to pay £50 in costs.
