The number of people receiving a new dementia diagnosi has fallen for the third consecutive year, according to the DHSC.
In a House of Keys session, DHSC Minister Claire Christian confirmed 314 people were diagnosed in 2023, 264 in 2024, and 243 in 2025.
Ms Christian told members that 551 individuals with a diagnosis of dementia are registered with GPs on the island, and of these registered patients, 432 are receiving specific dementia medication.
She added that Public Health is “currently carrying out a needs assessment on this subject” which will contain “prevalence data and modelling for future prevalence of dementia”.

The minister also addressed a pre-2016 proposal for a ‘dementia village’, saying her department is “not aware of any existing strategic intentions to develop the dementia village model”.
Dr Alex Allinson praised the Island’s Memory Clinic, which Ms Christian called “absolutely fundamental and unique to the Isle of Man.”
She added that “the average time from referral to diagnosis is approximately eight weeks” and noted there is currently no waiting list for the older person’s mental health service.
