The DoI Minister is to be asked when her department will return horse trams to the Sea Terminal.
Now running from outside a pub to an unmarked junction, the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway was cut short by the DoI’s prom project during the previous administration.
Under a Tynwald resolution in January 2017, the department has been supposed to reinstate the trams to the Sea Terminal, albeit with a single track running next to the road as opposed to the double track that used to exist.
Tim Glover will ask Dr Michelle Haywood: “When her department will honour the Tynwald resolution of January 2017 that a single line tram track be laid between the Sea Terminal and the War Memorial.”
Horsing Around
Long before Dr Haywood was handed the baton that is the horse trams Tynwald voted to restore the line along the prom, but the money was then taken and used for other parts of the prom regeneration debacle.
Her predecessor Tim Crookall revealed that the tram tracks that were bought for the scheme were still being held by the DoI as recently as last June and were said to be “corroding” but “still usable”.
Mr Crookall had also suggested that the scheme could cost up to £2m in a Tynwald sitting last year.
