A Port St Mary newsagent and post office owner has announced her candidacy for the House of Keys general election in September.
Vicky East runs Torden Stores and has been a committee member of the PSM Royal British Legion.
Ms East said her priorities include reforming the Steam Packet, prescription exemptions for chronic illnesses, and security checks on travellers arriving into the Island .
She also cited the need to address rising crime and improve freight services.
“I am standing for election because over the last few years, I have been privileged to be a sounding board for members of our community, helping out and going above and beyond,” Ms East said.
“My ethos is, we are all here together, lets work together, listen to people, and understand what people want.”
She added: “For too long we have had our voices quelled in the roar of independant and self centered politics.”
Ms East stated her belief that an MHK should prioritise constituents’ genuine concerns.
“An MHK works for those who vote for them. therefore it is paramount that an MHK puts their efforts and actions GENUINELY asked for by the people, not what one individual in Tynwald wants.”
The general election will take place on September 24.
Also standing the constituency is: Michael Crowe, Dr Michelle Haywood, Laurence Vaughan-Williams and Simon Williams .
