The Isle of Man Post Office is advising customers to expect new customs charges on parcels and packets containing goods sent to EU countries from July 1.
It follows changes introduced by EU authorities.
The fees, which may include duties, taxes or handling charges, will be set by the destination country and collected from the recipient on delivery until IOMPO completes system upgrades later this summer.
Once that work is finished, senders will be able to pay all charges upfront when buying postage, reducing the risk of unexpected bills at the other end.
International Parcels
As part of the update, IOMPO will switch to the CN23 customs form for all international items containing goods, replacing the CN22. The CN23 requires more detailed information about the parcel’s contents, value and destination, helping customs authorities process items more smoothly.
Letters, documents and paperwork do not require a CN23.
IOMPO expects its system changes to be completed by the end of August 2026. Until then, customers sending goods to the EU are urged to make sure recipients know that charges may be payable on arrival.
Work is also continuing on a solution to reinstate parcel services to the United States, though progress depends on any further changes announced by US authorities.
The Post Office said the updates are part of ongoing efforts to keep international services compliant and sustainable.
