Internationally acclaimed Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis will headline this year’s Cooish Vooar Manx language festival.
She will perform at the Gaiety Theatre on September 29 alongside the quartet Allt as part of Blein ny Gaelgey, Year of the Manx Language.
The concert, InterGaelic Song & Music with Allt, will explore the shared musical heritage of Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man, drawing on Gaelic poetry and traditional song. Support comes from Manx Gaelic singer Ruth Keggin and Scottish harpist Rachel Hair.
Fowlis, known globally for her vocals in Disney/Pixar’s Brave, is joined in Allt by renowned musicians Zoë Conway, John McIntyre and Éamon Doorley, promising an evening that blends tight harmonies with contemporary Celtic chamber music.
Ruth Keggin said she was “thrilled” to perform with the group, calling Fowlis “an incredible musician” and describing the concert as “a real coup for the Island”.
The event is the headline act of the Cooish Vooar, which runs from September 25 to 29 and is organised by Culture Vannin and Jeebin, the Manx Language Network.
Year of the Manx Language Coordinator Tiffany Kerruish said the concert would be “a spellbinding finale” to the Island’s biggest-ever Manx language festival.
