Island households could receive grants and interest‑free credit to switch to cleaner home heating under a new Heat Wise Home scheme being put to Tynwald this July.
The proposal from DEFA, working with Manx Utilities, would support residents to install air‑source heat pumps, alongside help for insulation, draught proofing, window upgrades and ventilation improvements.
Under the plans, lower‑income households would receive full grant support, while middle‑income households would get a mix of grants and interest‑free credit.
Full‑support households:
- Up to £16,000 grant for a heat pump
- Up to £7,000 grant for other eligible measures
Partial‑support households:
- £8,000 grant + £8,000 interest‑free credit for a heat pump
- 50% of costs up to £7,000 for other measures
The scheme builds on earlier government programmes such as the Green Living Grant and Energy Efficiency Scheme, and draws on the Manx Utilities heat pump trial, which has already seen more than 150 installations.
DEFA Minister Clare Barber MHK said the scheme would help residents “live in warmer, healthier homes while spending less on energy”, subject to Tynwald approval.
If approved, funding would run until April 2029.
