A data breach has been reported to the Information Commissioner after the annual electoral canvass changed how forms are addressed.
This year, all forms are sent to “The Occupier”, unlike 2021’s approach of using a named head of household.
The Cabinet Office warns this increases the risk of personal data being seen by new occupants if previous residents have moved without updating the register.
It said: “If you have moved home without updating your details on the electoral register, the change in process this year means there is an increased chance that people living at your former address could see your own personal information.”
The office confirmed it “received a small number of complaints about the change.”
Residents are urged to register or update details online via the QR code on the envelope or at services.gov.im/electoral-register.
