There was a full emergency turnout after a suspicious substance was found in a parcel left for an anti-wind farm campaigner.
Manx.News understands the package was left for the Garff resident at the commissioners’ office. They took it home on Tuesday (October 6) and, when they opened it, became concerned at a substance contained within it.
There was a full emergency turnout to their home, at Clay Head.
A police spokesperson confirmed emergency services “responded to an incident in the Baldrine and Laxey area following reports of a substance requiring specialist assessment”.
Precaution
They added: “As a precaution, a multi-agency response was initiated whilst enquiries and specialist assessments were carried out.
“The substance was assessed and found not to present a risk to public safety.
“This was an isolated incident and there was no risk to the wider community.”
At the weekend, Laxey was the setting for events organised by anti-wind farm group Not4IoM, and featured global theatre star Sam Barks lending her support.
